About Hogan 360

The Hogan 360 is typically used for emerging, first-line and middle managers to gain insights into how particular groups of individuals experience working with them. Organisations may typically use the Hogan 360 to support managers in their first 90 days, combine the Hogan suite of products, or to provide a clear data-driven measurement tool which enables simple and fast analysis.

The Hogan 360 includes 50 core questions that gather feedback from a choice of 13 pre-defined groups. The combined rater group scores are ranked from highest to lowest for each question item and compared to the global average score in the benchmark. This enables the participant to see how their performance compares to others outside their own organisation.

Each of the four areas of "Self-Management", "Relationship Management", "Working in the Business" and "Working on the Business" include a range of sub-themes with summary scores from rating groups.

Raters are also asked to choose the participant's top four strengths and four opportunities for improvement. Thier choices are then collated and ranked to enable the participants to gain insight around how their overall audience sees their strengths and collective view on areas to improve.

Open comments from raters are collected regarding strengths and opportunities to improve.

The questionnaire is available in 23 languages.

Certification and expert interpretation are available from APS as an authorised provider.  Request a sample report today or join us in the certification webinar.

Research Perspective

Hogan 360 Research

Peter Berry Consultancy (PBC) and Hogan Assessment Systems have developed and validated the Hogan 360 leadership model through a series of systematic, evidence-based studies since the early 1990s. The model draws on established frameworks such as the Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence and the Balanced Scorecard, and is informed by analysis of thousands of employee opinion surveys and over 87,000 open-text responses from feedback initiatives. In partnership with Dr. Robert Hogan, PBC has identified key behavioural and business competencies that distinguish high-performing leaders.

PBC’s technical team has published detailed validation studies, including principal component analyses of data from more than 40,000 raters and internal consistency metrics (Cronbach’s alpha) exceeding .80 for all subscales. Empirical validation includes correlations with external manager ratings and construct validity demonstrated through matched samples of approximately 2,500 leaders, linking the 360 with Hogan’s personality assessments. All research, benchmarking, and updates are conducted in-house and shared with clients. According to PBC, this makes the Hogan 360 one of the most scientifically robust leadership assessments available today.

Features :

The Hogan 360 has been researched and validated for reliability and accuracy. The underpinning model is designed for objectivity and robust reporting.  All items are mapped to observable workplace behaviours aligned to leadership and management effectiveness. The Hogan 360 feedback is focused on translating feedback into practical leadership implications.

The Hogan 360 benchmarks are based on a comprehensive global dataset of feedback from leaders and employees, providing a robust comparison point for interpreting 360 feedback results. The standard benchmark compares individuals against a broad mix of leaders across countries, industries, sectors and job levels, while additional benchmarks are available by job level, sector and top-quartile performance for more tailored comparisons.

This assessment sources feedback from a range of relevant stakeholders, including self, line manager(s), peers, direct reports, and sometimes other key groups (for example, customers or project partners). The feedback structure is designed to provide a truly holistic picture of leader effectiveness as observed from multiple perspectives.
